Hoddle Street Residence

The design has all the living area on the northern side taking advantage of the sweeping rural views and northern orientation. A large north facing verandah provides shade in summer and a outdoor area to enjoy the views. The open plan living area has large north facing windows which provide connection to the landscape. A detached single garage was decided on rather than being attached to the dwelling to maintain the traditional building forms of the area. The detached garage allows more freedom with the main dwelling design to focus on proportions and location of windows. The key to designing a dwelling of this type is getting the proportions and location of fenestration correct otherwise the whole facade looks unbalanced.
